The Foxes will be a top flight side again next year, following last week's promotion with the title in a 3-0 victory over Preston North End at Deepdale on Monday. McAteer scored Leicester's third after a Jamie Vardy brace.

For McAteer, an Academy graduate who broke into the senior picture this term, it's been a magical campaign at a higher level. Previously having played in the lower leagues, the 2024/25 season will see him climb into the Premier League.

"I can’t sum up the feeling to be honest," he said in Lancashire on Monday. "You can tell from the celebrations what it means to us. It’s been a tough season, a long season – personally as well, with injuries and stuff.

McAteer: A Great Feeling

Goalscorer Kasey McAteer gives his take on Leicester City's title-winning victory at Preston North End.

"In front of our fans away, it’s a long way to come, so credit to them. They’ve been top drawer. It’s a great feeling. It’s my first season at this level. It’s been tough physically and mentally. That’s all part of the game in professional football.

"It’s made me stronger. I’ve put all of that behind me now. Obviously, next season, we’ll be in the Premier League which is what every young boy dreams of."

Leicester Seal The Title At Preston

Jamie Vardy scores two and Kasey McAteer also nets as Leicester City clinch the Sky Bet Championship title with a 3-0 win at Preston North End.

After missing a clear-cut header in the first half, McAteer was thrilled to make amends with his seventh goal of the season to put the match to bed late on.

"I should have scored the first one!" he added. "I got caught in the lights so I couldn’t see the ball, but I had to score to make up for that. Just to score in front of our fans, it’s what dreams are made of. It’s fantastic, I can’t believe it.

"[The group] is so special. We’ve had a tough run. We showed togetherness. You can see it here. We’re all so close, it’s a great group. Coming to training every day, they make is so much better and our job’s so fun to do so I can’t complain."
