Morgan Answers Jamaica Call

Wes Morgan is set to become the latest member of City’s international contingent, after being handed his first call-up to the Jamaican national side for two crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Subject to the relevant paperwork being completed, the Foxes skipper and  is set to join the Reggae Boyz as they look to continue their  and book their spot in Brazil next year.

Jamaica are set to take on Panama in Panama City on 6 September before heading back to Kingston for a clash with Costa Rica four days later, and Morgan told  that he is looking forward to the prospect of making his international bow.

It’s always been an ambition and something I knew was a possibility. Then they (Jamaica) approached me and I thought to myself ‘why not?’" Said the 29-year-old defender.

“In the back of my mind it’s always something that I’ve thought about, but now that they’ve asked if I’m available to play, I’m glad it has happened.

“It’s through my grandparents that I qualify, they’re from Jamaica and through them I can qualify for citizenship.

“I’m just thinking about playing for Jamaica now, winning some games and the chance of qualifying for the World Cup, which if we managed it would be the highlight of my footballing career.

“It’ll be different playing international football for me, but I think that if I can continue playing my own game like I always do then it'll show that I can cope with the international game.”

The CONCACAF Fourth Qualifying Round is also known as ‘The Hex’, and consists of six teams – Panama, Costa Rica, United States, Honduras, Mexico and Jamaica.
