City Streets Turned Blue

Around 35,000 Foxes fans painted the town blue on Bank Holiday Monday as the Leicester squad paraded the Sky Bet Football League trophy through the city streets.
Swarms of Foxes supporters lined the route, which took two open-top buses along the High Street to the Clock Tower before the players finally took emerged onto the main stage at a packed out Town Hall Square.

A host of special guests such as X-Factor 2013 winner Sam Bailey, Jersey Budd and Club legends like Steve Walsh had warmed up the crowd, who greeted their heroes with a wall of noise as manager Nigel Pearson and Club captain Wes Morgan hoisted the trophy.

The Club’s Chairman and Vice-Chairman, Vichai and Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha were also welcomed onto the stage to a chorus of cheers to mark their role in the Club’s return to the top-flight after a 10-year absence.

The party didn’t end there though as around 4,000 fans then made their way to the Club’s ‘All Back To Ours’ for a special after-party at King Power Stadium with the players, management and Football League trophy.

Manager Pearson was overwhelmed by the turnout. He told Foxes Player: “I think we needed to show our appreciation to our fans. It’s absolutely fantastic.

“I’m delighted for everybody concerned with the Club and delighted for the fans. It’s a wonderful experience and I’m delighted that we’re able to share it with them.”

After receiving a hero’s welcome along with his team-mates, skipper Morgan said: “I can’t describe how happy I was to see the fans turn out today. It’s been a great day to take the bus through the town centre and see fans everywhere cheering us. It was an incredible experience.

“It’s been an exciting few weeks and we’ve achieved a lot. It’s been a constant party to be honest, but to get to 102 points is fantastic and credit to the manager, the players, the staff and the fans who have supported us the whole way.”

Academy graduate Andy King, who was part of Pearson’s League 1 title winning side in 2008/09 added: “I think the players know what it means to the city. We love to give the fans something to celebrate and shout about because they’ve shown their support brilliantly throughout the season.”
