International Call-Ups For Five Foxes

Five Foxes will be in international action this coming week as the Sky Bet Championship takes a back seat to the FIFA World Cup 2014 Qualifiers.

Skipper Wes Morgan will be looking to add to his two caps for Jamaica as they face two make-or-break fixtures against the USA and Honduras on Friday 11 October and Tuesday 15 October respectively.

The Reggae Boyz travel to Kansas City to face the USA, who lead the six-team group, and nothing but a win will do as Jamaica look to claw back the four point gap to Panama, who occupy the fourth qualifying spot.

They’ll then take on Honduras in Kingston where they will be hoping to seal that fourth qualifying spot and a tie with Chris Wood’s New Zealand in November, the winner of which will advance to Brazil.

Another Fox in action is Welsh international Andy King, who will be part of the squad to take on Macedonia at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday 11 October before travelling to Brussels for a tricky tie against Belgium four days later.

Chris Coleman’s side’s hopes of reaching Brazil have already been ended, but they will be eyeing up some positive results as they build for the Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

One City star whose nation does have a very good chance of reaching the World Cup Finals in Brazil next year is Kasper Schmeichel, as his Denmark side have two crunch matches against Italy (11 October) and Malta (15 October), both of which will be in the capital city of Copenhagen.

With top-placed Italy already through, the Danes lie just one point behind second-placed Bulgaria in third, and will be desperate to give their chances a boost with victory over the Italians on home soil going into the tie against bottom-placed Malta.

Elsewhere summer signing Marcin Wasilewski has been included in the Poland squad that will play England at Wembley on 15 October after a trip to Kharkiv to face Ukraine on 11 October.

The experienced international will be hoping to put a dent in England’s qualification hopes and drag his Poland side back into contention. The Poles currently sit fourth, three points behind England in top spot, and two behind Ukraine, who currently occupy the play-off spot.

Defender Sean St Ledger has also been included in the Republic of Ireland squad to face Germany in Cologne on 11 October and Kazakhstan in Dublin four days later.

While the Irish still have a mathematical chance of grabbing the play-off spot from current occupants Sweden, their chances of doing so are highly unlikely after back-to-back defeats at the hands of the Swedes and Austria in the last round of matches.

Following on from Layton Nduku’s and Darnell Johnson’s involvement with England Under-16s on Friday night, another member of the Academy set up has been called up for his country in the form of youngster Callum Elder.

The left back will link up with Australia’s Under-20s side for an upcoming series of AFC U-19 Championship Qualification matches to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
