Morgan Makes International Bow

The match in Panama City ended 0-0, but after losing influential midfielder Rodolph Austin to a red card early in the second half, Morgan’s new team-mates will have been happy just to keep their World Cup dream alive with a draw.

Playing alongside several familiar faces from the Championship such as Jobi McAnuff, Lloyd Doyley and Garath McLeary, Morgan played the full 90 minutes at the heart of a stubborn and effective Jamaican defence, which managed to keep a dangerous Panama at bay.

The draw moves Jamaica onto three points in the Hexagonal FIFA World Cup qualifying group – five points adrift of Mexico, who occupy the fourth and final qualification position with three games to play.

It means Tuesday’s match against Costa Rica in Kingston is a must-win if they are to keep alive their hopes of reaching Brazil next year.

Meanwhile in Macedonia there was disappointment for Andy King,whose Wales side slipped to a late 2-1 defeat that ended their chances of overhauling Croatia and Belgium in their qualifying group.

The City midfielder was an unused substitute along with world record signing Gareth Bale and could do nothing as Aleksandar Trajkovski netted an 80th minute winner, despite Aaron Ramsay having levelled the match from the penalty spot in the first half.

There was better news for City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel though, who was also an unused substitute as his Denmark side overcame a spirited Malta to earn a 2-1 win and stay within touching distance of the top two in their qualifying group.

Leon Andreasen gave the Danes a second minute lead, but group minnows Malta struck back through a sumptuous free kick from Clayton Failla before the break.

The goal gave the home side hope in Ta’Qali, but an own-goal from Ryan Camilleri in the second half handed the Danes a victory.
