Pearson's Injury Update

City boss Nigel Pearson admits it was upsetting to see defender Zoumana Bakayogo suffer another injury setback on Monday night.

The former Tranmere Rovers defender went down unchallenged early in the first half while playing for the Under-21s in their 2-0 defeat to Fulham at King Power Stadium.
Pearson said: “He’s having a scan – clearly for the lad it’s a big setback because he’s done so well to get back in contention.
“Unfortunately for him we fear he may have had a reoccurrence of his injury.
“We’ll have to wait and see what the scans reveal before we give any more detail, but it’s upsetting for the lad because he’s very popular here among the player and staff.
“You never want to see players get injured, but we’ll see how that develops.”
And Pearson welcomed the return of former Manchester United midfielder Matty James, who played over an hour in the defeat in his recovery from a shin injury which has kept him out of action so far this season.
He continued: “It was always our intention to give him around an hour rather than put him under too much stress.
“He trained all of last week and has had some pitch time now so with another week’s training it’s possible he could come into contention [for Manchester United].
“It’s nice to have lots of options and certainly looking forward to the weekend’s game it’s beneficial for us to have as many players available as possible.”
And Kasper Schmeichel, who missed out on Saturday’s 1-0 victory at the Britannia Stadium against Stoke City, is also on the road to recovery after picking up a minor injury while away with Denmark on international duty.
Pearson added: “He’ll be increasing his workload in training this week and we’ll see how he is, but there’s a very strong possibility that he’ll be available for the weekend.”
