Ranieri: Clear Our Minds
- After a 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, the manager says the Reds deserved their win
- Jamie Vardy cut Liverpool’s lead to 2-1 in the first half but the home side added another two after the break
- Ranieri says the Foxes began well but lost their shape after Liverpool’s opener
Claudio Ranieri has called for Leicester City to put their defeat to Liverpool behind them quickly after a tough evening in the Premier League at Anfield.
The Reds ran out 4-1 winners on the night with two goals in each half enough to earn them all three points, and for Ranieri, the home side were deserved winners.
Jamie Vardy scored to make it 2-1 just before half time and City did have chances, but it wasn’t to be at Anfield as the manager underlined the importance to the team of re-focusing their attentions on a midweek UEFA Champions League trip to face Club Brugge.
“Now we have to clear our minds and understand that in football we have to be strong, determined, aggressive and reactive,” Ranieri told LCFC TV.
“This evening, Liverpool were better than us. Now we must clear our mind and think about the next match in the Champions League.
“We expected this kind of football and this performance from Liverpool. It was their first game at home and they were determined. More than us. They deserved to win.
“We started well in the first 10 minutes before they scored. We were in good shape and closed very well the space. After the first goal we lost our shape and they got better and increased the momentum.
“We scored but we lost our shape in the midfield because there were so many players in there. They play with a diamond and change their ways. We knew that but this evening it was difficult to stop them.”
