Fuchs Calls For City Fight

- The left back cited the Foxes’ recent spirited performances as something his side must now build on 

- Fuchs believes City will come back stronger in the New Year, starting at the Riverside Stadium 

Christian Fuchs wants Leicester City to show their togetherness when they face Middlesbrough in the Premier League on Monday afternoon. 

Buoyed by a battling 1-0 victory over West Ham United, the Foxes head to the Riverside Stadium to face a Boro outfit that sit just one place behind City in the table. 

While Aitor Karanka’s men have won just once in their past five Premier League outings, the champions of England are well aware of just how dangerous Saturday’s opponents can be. 

But if City show their fighting spirit, Fuchs believes his side can return from Middlesbrough with a credible result. 

“We need to do what we are good at – to dig deep and defend as a team to fight together,” Fuchs told LCFC TV. “If we do that then that’s great. It’s going to be a good game. 

“We’ve had a couple of games since we’ve played Boro where we’ve had to dig deep, especially Stoke City where we were one man down and had to come back. 

“We’ve showed in a couple of games that that Leicester fight is still there. At the moment, we’ve been a little bit unlucky and we haven’t got this momentum going where things just happen. We need to stay together as a team and come back stronger in 2017. 

“It’s always important to collect points, so if we start the New Year with a win then that would be great. We need every point we can get right now. 

“We want to get this momentum going that we’ve been talking about for the last few weeks.” 

Boro’s forward threat was evident in November when they held City to a 2-2 draw at King Power Stadium following a brace from striker Alvaro Negredo. 

Fuchs continued: “It’ll be a tough game. We know that Middlesbrough are a good team. They’ve done very well in the Premier League after they’ve been promoted, so it’ll be a nice game to play in. 

“They’ve already played away against us and now they’re at home. They want to show their fans that they can play good football at home and they do. 

“They have a lot of possession and are good at keeping the ball, so they’ll definitely want to win their home game and of course their first game of the New Year.”
