Mahrez Mesmerises Local Youngsters

- The Leicester City winger took the Premier League trophy to Tugby Church of England Primary School, Leicester 

- Young City fan Liam Letts, who was seen on TV celebrating Riyad’s goal against Middlesbrough on Saturday, got to meet the Algerian star

Meeting your hero isn’t something that you get to do every day, but that’s exactly what happened when Riyad Mahrez visited Tugby Church of England Primary School on Wednesday. 

Let’s set the scene. On Saturday, the Foxes were trailing 1-0 to Middlesbrough, but after City win a penalty, up steps Riyad. Naturally, it’s a nervous moment, not least for young Fox Liam Letts... 

Liam, seven, plays as a defender for Thurmaston Magpies – a local grassroots club that are unbeaten so far this season – and on Saturday came down to watch Claudio Ranieri’s men take on Boro as part of his friend Alfie’s eighth birthday celebrations. 

Fortunately, as Riyad fires home his spot kick to make it 1-1, the TV cameras were pointing right at Liam and his friends, who celebrated City’s equaliser ecstatically – Liam even described seeing himself on TV as one of the best days of his life! 

Well, on Wednesday afternoon, that might just have been eclipsed, as the PFA Player of the Year and Algerian ace paid a visit to Liam’s school in Tugby, Leicester, with the Premier League trophy no less. 

As the local youngsters and their teacher Miss Squires went about a regular day in the classroom, in walks Riyad with English football’s most coveted prize. 

It sparked joyous scenes and it’s likely to be a moment that Liam and his classmates won’t forget, or stop talking about, anytime soon. 

‘So Liam, how did school go today?’ 

‘Well, mum…’
