Ben Petty felt Leicester City’s Development Squad were unfortunate to be beaten as convincingly as 4-1 following their clash with Everton at the Merseyrail Community Stadium.

While the Foxes were defeated in Premier League 2 on Monday evening, they could have gone into the break 2-1 up.

After Jeffrey Schlupp cancelled out Callum Connolly’s header, Yohan Benalouane had an effort of his own cleared off the line just after the half-hour mark.

Goals from Oumar Niasse, Harry Charsley and Courtney Duffus eventually sealed Everton the win, but Petty felt the game could have been much different if his side had taken their chances before the interval.

“The scoreline is very harsh on us,” Petty told LCFC TV after the game. “Obviously we were disappointed with the second half and how it went because we were very positive at half-time, especially how we finished the half. We were on top really and missed a couple of good chances.

“We said to the players that our start to the second half wasn’t professional enough. We conceded two goals in five minutes and ultimately that lost us the game.

“We talked about needing to get our noses in front every now and again, but recently in games we’ve been going a goal behind and always having an upward battle.

“We probably deserved a second goal in the first half with the way that we played. That came back to haunt us in the second half.”

The Foxes play their final game of 2016 on Friday as they host Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup in the hope of ending the year on a high.

Petty added: “We had the Liverpool game after the disappointing game at Arsenal. That gave us an opportunity to bounce back and we did.

“Obviously we’ll try and do that again on Friday against Nottingham Forest. We’ve had two tough away games, so maybe the lads will benefit with a little break over Christmas.”
