Ranieri’s Fitness Update: Mendy & Schlupp
- Mendy and Schlupp will both miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Swansea City
- Ranieri aiming to build on last weekend’s goalless draw with Arsenal
Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri provided an update on the fitness of Nampalys Mendy and Jeffrey Schlupp ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture against Swansea City.
The Foxes will be without both Mendy and Schlupp for the clash, as City welcome the Welsh outfit to King Power Stadium for their second consecutive home fixture.
Claudio Ranieri’s men will aim to build on last weekend’s goalless draw with Arsenal – a game in which Mendy was substituted early on in the second half after landing awkwardly.
“Mendy is getting better,” Ranieri said of the midfielder’s fitness. “I think and I hope that after the international break he’s ready to play.
“Also Jeff [Schlupp] had a little injury to his muscle. It’s unbelievable because he was so good before the Arsenal match. He felt something and now I hope he will be ready after the international break.”
The City boss believes his side can take plenty from a clash with Arsenal that could have gone either way, but the Foxes must now pour all of their efforts into facing Swansea City.
Ranieri added: “It was important to make a positive result and we played so well. Of course, at the end of the match it was so open.
“We can win, we can lose, but it’s okay. It was a good match and now we are thinking about the next match against Swansea.
“I’m very focused to achieve 40 points – this is our target. It’s the same target as last season. We don’t change our mind. It’s important to be concentrated on our job.”
