U23s Reaction: Petty Hails Second-Half Performance
- The Foxes beat Spurs 2-0 at King Power Stadium thanks to goals from Demarai Gray and Elliott Moore
- It proved to be City’s first victory in Premier League 2 this term
Ben Petty says the Development Squad’s spirited second-half performance in their 2-0 Premier League 2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur paid dividends.
After a tight first 45 minutes, the Foxes upped their tempo in the second period and eventually went ahead with 16 minutes to play through Demarai Gray.
Just five minutes later, defender Elliott Moore headed in a Gray corner to help City record their first Premier League 2 win of the season.
“It was a tough game again,” Petty told LCFC TV. “We knew Tottenham would come here and be comfortable in possession and we were a little bit disappointed with the way we played in the first half.
“Half-time gave us a good opportunity to refocus and we got the boys at it in the second half – I thought they were terrific.
“It was a game of few chances really and although Tottenham had good possession, they didn’t create too much.
“For us, in the second half we switched the play really well and got into some good positions.”
Now unbeaten in four Premier League 2 games, Petty believes the whole of the Development Squad are reaping the rewards of hard work, not least Moore.
He added: “I think Elliott [Moore] over the last few matches has been brilliant. His game is really improving.
“He’s got to a good level of consistency and he really deserved that goal because of his performances in recent weeks.”
