The current UEFA Europa League holders have lost only twice at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium this season and have suffered just one defeat in their last eight games in all competitions.
Without doubt one of the most impressive outfits in Spain this term, Jorge Sampaoli’s men are set to be a .
But Zieler is hopeful City can thrive off an underdog reputation that served them so well in 2015/16.
Speaking to , the German said: “We’ll be an underdog, especially how we’re not performing to the levels that we want to. For a few people, we are the underdog, but that doesn’t have to be bad for us.
“I think we just have to focus on our own performance. We want to make sure that in every competition we get a positive result. We have to believe in ourselves because we’ve shown it before.
“Sevilla have not only done well this season, they have been fantastic in Europe over the last couple of seasons. They’ve got a lot of quality players in their squad, but that’s what you expect in the Champions League. They have a very good team.”
The last time Sevilla lost in the knockout stages of a European competition was during the 2011/12 campaign against Hannover 96.
Zieler was in goal for the German outfit during both legs and knows first-hand the atmosphere that Sevilla fans can generate at the 45,000-seater stadium.
Reflecting on his past involvement against Sevilla, Zieler continued: “That was almost five years ago, but because we went through to the group stages, I have good memories of it. With Hannover 96, we were a bit of an underdog and we got a draw there.
“We won at home and got through. I have fantastic memories because for Hannover 96, it was a really big thing back then.
“The fans were very loud. They try to make a good atmosphere to support their team. Behind the goal, they have a stand where they are very loud and like to support their team a lot.
“For us I think every player has played in big games so we know what to expect. We have to go there and focus on ourselves and we will see at the end what kind of result we will get.”
