Development Squad midfielder Michael Cain is set to join League 2 side Mansfield Town in a month-long loan after a deal was agreed between the Clubs.
The 19-year-old has been in fine form for Steve Beaglehole’s Under-21s group in recent weeks, scoring impressively in back-to-back away games against Newcastle United and Fulham to underline his growing potential.
Now with Paul Cox’s Stags, Cain will be available to make his Football League debut in Saturday’s Field Mill clash with high flying Fleetwood Town.
Mansfield currently sit 18th in the League 2 table with a total of 35 points – a healthy six clear Torquay United in the relegation places.
A creative influence in the centre of the park, Cain is blessed with considerable ability with the ball at his feet – something that was recognised at last year's End of Season Awards, when he was named Academy Player of the Year.
Cain was also a key member of the Under-21s squad that lifted the prestigious Hong Kong Soccer Sevens crown in the summer – opening the scoring in a 2-0 Final victory over Newcastle.
