Chilwell: We Know What We’re Up Against
- The 19-year-old defender could make his third appearance for the Foxes if called upon
- Chilwell says his side can take plenty of confidence from their recent performances
With the potential of a third appearance for Leicester City on the horizon, Ben Chilwell says his last outing against Tottenham Hotspur has filled him with confidence ahead of Wednesday's clash.
The Foxes host Mauricio Pochettino’s men in an Emirates FA Cup Third Round replay at King Power Stadium having drawn 2-2 at White Hart Lane on 10 January.
Chilwell made his second start for the Club in that fixture, coming up against some of the most talented players in the country, but is yet to make an appearance at King Power Stadium.
The young left back could be in line for his third outing in a City shirt on Wednesday and believes last week’s 1-0 Barclays Premier League win in London could give his side the upper hand going into a third clash with Tottenham in just 10 days.
He said: “We’ve got the replay coming up on Wednesday and have played against Tottenham twice in the last week or so, so we have an idea of the team they might play and the style they’ll play – that’s pressing high, playing football and having possession.
“We know what we’re up against on Wednesday and the gaffer has been doing lots of stuff with us looking forward to the game and we’re all looking forward to it.
“It (recent performances) gives us massive confidence. Everyone was disappointed with the result against Villa because it would have been nice to get six points during the week but to get the win against Tottenham in midweek was massive and we could have won on Saturday too.
“So to put those performances in gives us massive confidence going into Wednesday to get another win.”
Chilwell can certainly take pride in his two displays for the Club that came either side of a nine-game loan spell at Huddersfield Town.
He earned plenty of plaudits while at the Terriers, as well as from City boss Claudio Ranieri when he returned to Leicester.
“It’s good to hear form the gaffer that you’ve done well,” said Chilwell. “Obviously he gives you advice before the game and at half-time.
“All the players at half time [against Spurs] were telling us what to do and what positions to take up, things like that. It gives us massive confidence going into Wednesday that we’ve played against one of the top teams in the Premier League and done well.
“The FA Cup is a massive competition and the opportunity to play in the final at Wembley is something everyone wants to do.
“The gaffer keeps telling us to keep thinking of the final at Wembley and what a big occasion it would be for us all. Obviously now we’re out of the Capital One Cup and we’re doing well in the Premier League, so if we do manage to beat Tottenham, it’d be great to go all the way to Wembley.”
