Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has been named as the Men’s Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year after a stunning season for the Foxes.

Having been named in the PFA’s Team of the Year, Mahrez, 25, pipped fellow team-mates Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kanté to the accolade at the 43rd Annual PFA Awards on Sunday evening, as well as Arsenal's Mesut Özil, West Ham United's Dimitri Payet and Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.

The Algeria international becomes the first player in Leicester City history to win the award after an outstanding season for the Club.

Mahrez’s goal in the 4-0 victory over Swansea City at King Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon was his 17th this Premier League season. That impressive haul included his first ever professional hat-trick at Swansea in December.

The league’s highest-scoring midfielder so far this term has also notched up 11 assists and has been key to City’s surge to the top of the table.

Mahrez scored the opening goal against Swansea on Sunday to help move City eight points clear at the Premier League summit with just three games to play.
