Leicester City's Impressive Season In Numbers

Ahead of Leicester City's return to action against Manchester City on Saturday 3 April (5:30pm GMT), LCFC.com takes a look at some of the statistics behind the Foxes' stellar campaign to date.
More on this story...

Sitting third in the Premier League standings and into the Semi-Finals of the Emirates FA Cup, as well as enjoying a first European campaign in four years, there have been plenty of memorable moments during the 2020/21 season.

Only league leaders Manchester City (22 wins) have triumphed on more occasions than Leicester (17) in the Premier League this season, though it has been City's away form that has been particularly impressive.

Notching up 10 Premier League victories on the road so far this term, the last of those saw Brendan Rodgers' side come from behind to defeat Brighton & Hove Albion at AMEX Stadium on 6 March, with defender Daniel Amartey the unlikely source of a late winner - his first goal since December 2016.

Kelechi Iheanacho was also on the scoresheet that evening and is currently enjoying his best run of goalscoring form in a Leicester City shirt. Hitting seven goals in his last four games and nine in his last nine in all competitions, whichever way you look at the numbers, it's been a productive couple of months for the Nigerian striker.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Kelechi Iheanacho continued his hot streak in front of goal by netting twice against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

His three goals against Sheffield United on 14 March, to net his first Foxes hat-trick, helped City match their biggest-ever home win in the top flight, equalling the 5-0 scoreline recorded against Newcastle United in September 2019.

Following a blistering start to the season, Iheanacho's strike partner, Jamie Vardy, is seventh in the 2020/21 Premier League goal table, with 12 strikes to his name, while Harvey Barnes (nine) and James Maddison (eight) are not too far behind despite both currently sitting on the sidelines due to injuries.

Several of Vardy's goals could be described as crucial. His late winner at Emirates Stadium in October sealed a first win away at Arsenal in 47 years, while the hat-trick scored in the 5-2 triumph over Manchester City will go down in history as a key part of one of the all-time great Leicester City performances.

Just over a month later, on 8 November, 2020, Vardy produced the only goal of the game to see off Wolverhampton Wanderers and help City record a sixth-straight league victory, shortly before finding a last-minute winner at Sheffield United.

Jamie Vardy

Vardy's 12th goal of the season came at King Power Stadium against the reigning Premier League champions.

Although credited as an own goal, the talismanic forward then played a big hand in the Foxes' late equaliser against Manchester United on Boxing Day, six days after contributing from the spot in a dominant 2-0 away victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

More recently, his 81st-minute strike against Liverpool on 13 February, one of three goals in the final 12 minutes at King Power Stadium, turned the game completely on its head and secured a thrilling comeback victory over the league champions.

Vardy also tops the Club's assists chart and only five Premier League players have laid on more goals for their team-mates than the former England international, who has assisted seven, closely followed by Maddison (five).

At the back, Jonny Evans, Wesley Fofana and Çağlar Söyüncü have formed a formidable partnership since the former returned from injury, making a combined total of 223 clearances during league fixtures.

Kasper Schmeichel

City's last line of defence has only been breached twice in their last three Premier League matches.

The trio have built a solid defensive wall in front of the ever-dependable Kasper Schmeichel and with 10 Premier League clean sheets so far this campaign, only four teams have kept more shutouts in the top flight.

The Denmark international goalkeeper is the only City player to feature in every minute of every Premier League game, while Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans has also made 29 appearances.

The 24-year-old's displays in the middle of the park have caught the eye, taking on a more creative role in recent weeks to help fill the void left by Maddison and Barnes.

His 'no-look' assist for Iheanacho's equaliser against Brighton earned considerable praise and plaudits, backed up by a superb strike of his own in the Emirates FA Cup Quarter-Final victory over Manchester United - his first goal since netting against Arsenal in the Premier League at the end of February.

Youri Tielemans

Tielemans struck twice against Leeds United as part of a 4-1 victory at Elland Road.

City's mercurial No.8 has contributed goals in important moments, rescuing a point away to Everton just three days after scoring the second goal in the FA Cup Fourth Round success at Brentford. His first of three strikes in the month of January, meanwhile, proved to be the winner at St. James' Park as Leicester triumphed 2-1 against Newcastle United.

The former AS Monaco midfielder has often controlled possession for the Foxes, playing a total of 1,869 passes and having 2,341 touches of the ball - more than any other Leicester player and ranking him eighth in the Premier League's overall lists.

Midfield enforcer Wilfred Ndidi has once again been a calming influence during the campaign, sitting in front and protecting the backline to great effect. No City player has made more tackles than the Nigerian, who, like full-back James Justin, has 61 interceptions to his name.

With nine league games to play for the third-placed Foxes and a trip to Wembley on the horizon, there is plenty of optimism that Leicester can end the season on a high.
