Six Foxes In International Action

There were Africa Cup of Nations victories for both Daniel Amartey’s Ghana and Islam Slimani and Riyad Mahrez’s Algeria over the weekend, as a total of six Leicester City players were in action.
Amartey’s Black Stars opened their AFCON qualification campaign with a resounding 5-0 win over Ethiopia, as a double from Raphael Dwamena and strikes from Asamoah Gyan, John Boye and Ebenzeer Ofori secured three points.
Also topping their qualification group after one game is Algeria, who edged Togo 1-0 with help from both Mahrez and Slimani. Anderlecht’s Sofiane Hanni scored the only goal of the game.
Unable to help their nation to three AFCON points were Wilfred Ndidi and Ahmed Musa, who both featured in Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat to South Africa. Ndidi started the game, while Musa came on in the second period.
Finally, winger Tom Lawrence brought City’s international representation to a close on Sunday evening, as he came off the bench with four minutes to play during Wales’ 1-1 World Cup qualification draw with Serbia.
Next in action could be City striker Shinji Okazaki, who may potentially face Iraq at the Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium in Tehran. Okazaki’s nation currently sit top of World Cup qualification Group B after seven games.
