Iheanacho: Hard Work Will Pay Off
- Kelechi Iheanacho looks back on his home Premier League debut for Leicester City
- The Nigerian striker came on in the 78th minute at King Power Stadium
- City fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to English champions Chelsea
- Iheanacho hopes he can make an impact once he returns to full fitness
Strikes from Álvaro Morata and N'Golo Kanté rendered Jamie Vardy’s penalty a mere consolation but Iheanacho, who came on in the 78th minute, is confident that positive results will follow.
“It was a disappointing result but we’ll forget about it and move on,” the Nigerian striker told LCFC TV at full-time. “We need to work more in training so we get the results we need.
“If we work more in training and keep going, we will get points in the league. I’m pleased to make my home debut today so I’m happy and I hope I can help the team reach the level they want, score goals and get the points we need in the league.
Iheanacho Disappointed With Result
City striker Kelechi Iheanacho gives his reflections on the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea, after he made his home debut for the Foxes.
“[Chelsea] are very good in central defence and have very good players. We did very well up front and defending-wise but we move on.”
Iheanacho, 20, has been limited to short cameos since joining the Club this summer but was delighted to get an opportunity to show the Blue Army what he is capable of on Saturday afternoon.
“The first game here in pre-season [against Borussia Mönchengladbach], I got a knock but I think I’m getting better now, fully fit and I’ll come back stronger to help us score.”
During the international break, Iheanacho registered his seventh career goal for Nigeria in a 4-0 victory over Cameroon and he hopes he can carry that form over into his City career.
We need to keep working hard. We have a very good squad and we’ll get the points that we need.

“I got a goal for my country, that’s all you need as a striker,” he added. “Here, I need to keep working hard and the goals will come.”
Looking ahead to next Saturday’s clash at Huddersfield Town (3pm kick-off), the Foxes forward says the squad is in a confident mood.
“It’s a tough game away in Huddersfield,” he continued. “We need to keep working hard. We have a very good squad and we’ll get the points that we need.
“It was a great atmosphere, the fans were good. I felt a good welcome from them so I am really happy being here and I will surely do something for the fans, for the team, for everyone.”
