The Desert Foxes had already beaten Senegal and Kenya in Group C to qualify for the round of 16 stage, where they will take on one of the best third-placed teams.
Slimani’s strike on 34 minutes was followed up by a first-half brace from Napoli midfielder Adam Ounas, as Algeria, with the help of former Fox Riyad Mahrez, made it three wins from three in the group stages.
The 31-year-old City frontman, who spent time on loan at Turkish outfit Fenerbahçe last term, took his tally to 27 goals in 61 games for Algeria.
Also through to the last-16 is Wilfred Ndidi’s Nigeria, who beat Guinea and Burundi before losing to Madagascar to finish second in Group B.
