- Jonny Evans says Leicester City will identify different ways of breaking teams down following Saturday’s loss to Manchester United
- Marcus Rashford scored a first-half penalty as the Red Devils won 1-0 at Old Trafford
- The fixture will be assessed on Monday evening’s Extra-Time show from 6pm BST
The Foxes came away from Old Trafford empty-handed, despite creating goalscoring opportunities, as Marcus Rashford’s eighth-minute penalty sealed all three points for the hosts.
While City enjoyed 58 per cent possession, Evans believes they must develop the way they break teams down.
“We put everything into getting something out if the game, especially after the incident in the first half with the penalty, and we pushed and pushed but we couldn’t get the equaliser in the end and it’s disappointing,” Evans told LCFC TV.
“When you are a goal down, they’ve got something to hang onto, so it always alters the dynamics in the game so it’s up to us then to impose ourselves on the match and push.
“Maybe they were looking to play on the counter attack a bit more, which is a big strength of theirs as well, so we probably had a little bit more of the ball in the second half.
“It’s something that we need to look at and try and break teams down, but they’re a top side and they’re always dangerous so we had to be careful about the counter-attack against them.”
Disappointed with the way the Foxes started the clash, Evans emphasised that they must learn to absorb early attacks before growing into the game.
He said: “There’s no doubt about it we’ve got character in our team, but we’ve got to start games better. It was similar against Chelsea and we came away and had a good second half and it was maybe a bit similar to today without getting the equaliser.
“It’s something we need to address and have a bit more belief coming into the game and a bit more determination to start the game well.
“We know that obviously coming to Old Trafford they’re going to come out strong and fast at the start and we needed to see that out and after that I think we’d have settled.
“With the penalty they got it gives them that advantage going further into the game and it was difficult for us to get back into it.”
City next face Tottenham Hotspur at King Power Stadium on Saturday 21 September, and Evans knows his side will seek to recover from this weekend’s defeat.
“We will bounce back, no doubt about it,” the defender added. “We’ll analyse it this week. We’ve got a young, fresh squad and real competition in the squad now and I’m sure the manager will analyse things and see where we can improve, and I think we are a team that wants to improve.
“We’re a conscientious group, we’ll always work hard, you’ll get that from us no matter what and it’s up to us to improve for the next game.”
