- Chris Davies says Leicester City’s hard work against Luton Town paid off
- The Foxes won 4-0 at Kenilworth Road in the third round of the Carabao Cup
- Former Hatters defender James Justin got on the scoresheet, while Demarai Gray, Youri Tielemans and Kelechi Iheanacho also notched
Goals from Demarai Gray, James Justin, Youri Tielemans and Kelechi Iheanacho saw City seal a spot in the last-16 with a convincing triumph at Kenilworth Road.
Pleased with their focused and determined performance, Davies praised the Foxes for the way they handled a tricky tie in Luton.
“It was a very professional display, [we got a] clean sheet and four goals and it could have been more,” Davies told LCFC TV.
“We completely dominated the game, and it was everything we wanted. We made changes, but we were hoping [to see] what we saw tonight, so we’re very pleased.
“The manager’s message to the players was that he was picking the team because of how well they’ve been working. He believed that they could put in a good performance and get a result, and we certainly didn’t underestimate Luton.
“We did our work on our opponent as we normally do, no matter what the opponent is and what level they are. We did our research and we did our work on Luton, and we knew it would be a tough game because they are a team that can give you a problem with the ball.
“Thankfully, tonight, we dominated the game from start to finish, so we had no real problem. We were certainly very focused on getting a result.”
Alongside scoring four goals, Davies praised City for their defensive solidity against the Hatters, as they recorded their second shutout of 2019/20.
He said: “The clean sheet is very important. We said in there about our desire to keep a clean sheet.
“Luckily, they had an offside goal ruled out from a corner there at the end, but the clean sheet was very important. It’s important to be solid and it bodes well for the future.”
Justin, making his debut in emotional circumstances against a club that he spent 14 years at, also earned credit for the way he played throughout the 90 minutes.
“I’m very, very pleased for JJ – he was superb,” said City’s assistant manager. “He showed his athleticism and his quality on the ball, his decision making, and he was going for the whole 90 minutes.
“He hasn’t played, that’s one of the first games he’s played since the pre-season friendly with Rotherham a while ago. I’m really pleased, and I think he got a deserving welcome by the home fans as well. I’m very, very pleased with his performance.”
