- Leicester City were defeated 4-0 by European and world champions Liverpool on Thursday
- James Maddison says City must show the 'quality, determination and hard work' they've showcased earlier this season
- The England midfielder was disappointed with the nature of Thursday's reverse against the Reds
- The Foxes travel to West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday (5:30pm GMT kick-off)
The Foxes' fourth defeat of the 2019/20 season came as a result of a double from Roberto Firmino, James Milner's penalty and Trent Alexander-Arnold's late drive on Filbert Way.
Maddison, 23, struggled to hide his disappointment when reflecting on the clash with LCFC TV at full-time, but pointed to the bigger picture, with City currently sat second in the Premier League.
"Liverpool are a top side," he said. "They’ve worked with their manager for a few years now and had transfer windows and a long period of time, whereas we’re probably at the start of our journey.
"It’s gone so well for us this season that we expect to win every game, but let’s not take anything away from Liverpool. Listen, we were out there, we were trying.
"I looked at the lads, it wasn’t a lack of effort. It’s been a busy schedule. I’m not making any excuses, but it was tough out there. They’re a good team.
"We just played the Champions League winners and it’s probably positive that we’ve got a game so quickly after because we can focus on that and try to put this game to bed.
"Take nothing away from Liverpool. We’re at the start of our journey and I think it’s important to reiterate that because today showed we were against a top side and they were better than us."
All of the strengths within the Leicester squad which have propelled them to such an encouraging 2019/20 season so far will be crucial for the Foxes as they approach 2020, says Maddison.
"Maybe, in a few hours, days, whatever, we can look back at the half-way point and be happy where we are," the England midfielder continued.
"Now it’s about just trying to maintain the form that we’ve showed over a long period of time because half a season’s not just a few-game winning streak. We’re right up there still.
"We played two very good teams, but it’s how we bounce back now and go into the second half of the season, showing the quality, determination and hard work we’ve showed to get us to this point."
