Coach Ben Petty says the prospect of being one game away from Wembley will drive Leicester City's Development Squad in their Leasing.com Trophy Quarter-Final at Newport County.

- The Foxes are two games away from a final at Wembley Stadium

- The winners of Tuesday's tie will host Salford City in the semi-finals

The Foxes travel to Rodney Parade on Tuesday for a 7pm kick-off against Sky Bet League 2 opposition after their initial fixture in south Wales was postponed due to a frozen pitch last month.

With all other last-eight ties now complete, City's youngsters know they will host Salford City in the semi-finals stage, with the winners heading to Wembley for the final showpiece.

Leicester are the last remaining side to enter an Under-21s side in the competition and Petty, the Club's Assistant Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, is excited by Tuesday's tie.

"We’re a bit walking wounded in there," he told LCFC TV, following Friday's 2-2 draw at Chelsea. "We need to have a recovery over and get back on the training pitch.

"We know what to expect, it’s going to be a really tough ask, but the carrot is there. If we can manage to do it, we’re back at King Power Stadium.

"It’s two games from Wembley, we can still dream, but the lads are in good spirits and we’re really looking forward to it."

With the Foxes just three points off the Premier League 2 Division 1 summit and into the latter stages of the Leasing.com Trophy, Petty believes the squad will learn key lessons over coming weeks.

"It’s great development now for us," he added. "There’s six games to go, we’ve lost probably our five strongest players out to good loans, and it’s now up to the younger ones to come in.

"Terell Pennant played [at Chelsea], a first-year scholar, and he was terrific, getting the corner for the goal. Callum Wright’s having to step up to the mark, Ali Reghba coming into the team.

It’s credit to them and I think the scouts that have been at the Leasing.com Trophy games have seen that our boys can cope with that League 1/League 2 football.

"So, it’s very exciting and we’ve got one or two coming onto the bench as well, so that’s what it’s all about, it’s about the next crop."

Last month, George Thomas (ADO Den Haag), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Blackpool), Admiral Muskwe (Swindon Town) and Mitchell Clark (Port Vale) all headed out for loan spells away from Leicester.

Petty says those moves were rewards for their efforts throughout the opening months of the current campaign and backed them to succeed.

"It’s credit to them and I think the scouts that have been at the Leasing.com Trophy games have seen that our boys can cope with that League 1/League 2 football," he continued.

"There’s [four] of them out now, with George and Kiernan as well, so it’s terrific for them and it’s the next part of their development."
