- Leicester City have a responsibility to finish the 2019/20 season as well as they can, according to manager Brendan Rodgers
- The Foxes sit third in the Premier League after 28 games
- Rodgers delivered an update on the condition of Jamie Vardy after he missed Friday’s clash with Norwich
Their latest outing resulted in a 1-0 defeat by Norwich City at Carrow Road on Friday, and with Chelsea drawing 2-2 at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday, their gap to fourth is now five points.
However, Rodgers and his men will not concern themselves with the results of other Premier League outfits as they attempt to maintain their impressive position in England’s top flight.
“We’ll finish where we deserve to finish, and it’s as simple as that,” said Rodgers. “Yes, we’ve had a [points] gap and we still have a gap, but we can only really concentrate on ourselves.
“I think that’s the focus. You can’t control any other team. That’s our message. Now, the real work begins. When you get to this stage, you work yourself to this point. Now, you have a responsibility to finish as well as you possibly can.
“We’ve got some great games and some tough games, but games where we can get the points to finish where we want to. There’s a lot of work to do. There’s 30 points still to play for, so we have to go away and analyse that and see where we can be better.
Rodgers says City’s aim over the next few weeks will be to rediscover their goalscoring form – and that will come via the means of hard work.
The Northern Irishman continued: “We’ve worked ourselves into a fantastic position with 10 games to go, and we’ve had a little spell now where there’s been a few games where we haven’t scored.
“We have to work very hard, go away and analyse and come up with a formula again that can get us back scoring goals. Defensively, we’ve been pretty strong all season but tonight, it was a poor goal from our perspective.
“That side doesn’t worry me, but we certainly need to find that quality. The responsibility is for the team to score. In areas of the field, it’s just dried up a little bit, not just with Jamie [Vardy], but with other players.
“We’ll continue to work. There’s no magic formula, you’ve just got to keep your confidence.”
Rodgers also provided an update on the fitness of top scorer Jamie Vardy, who did not feature in Friday’s loss at Norwich.
“We’ve spoken with the medical team,” said Rodgers. “He’s not out for long, it’s a low-grade strain on the same calf, so he’ll be back in if not for Birmingham, then definitely he’ll be fine for the game against Aston Villa.
“It’s something that we’ll hope will clear up soon.”
