Filip Benković enjoyed the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City. The Croatian defender made 10 appearances for the Robins, scoring twice. The centre-back’s first goal came on his full debut - in a victory over Derby County, while he also scored against Stoke City earlier this month.
Elsewhere, Andy King, who leaves the Club this summer after 16 magnificent years, had two loan spells during 2019/20 season, firstly making five appearances for Rangers, including in the UEFA Europa League, as the Glasgow giants won every game King featured in. He then moved back to England, turning out 14 times for Huddersfield Town as the Terriers confirmed their Championship survival.
Rachid Ghezzal made a temporary move to Fiorentina for the 2019/20 campaign and played 21 games for I Viola in Serie A and the Coppa Italia. The winger’s first goal for the club came earlier in July of this year, in a 3-1 league victory over Lecce. The Florence club finished the season in 10th place.
After spending the second half of the 2018/19 season on loan at Monaco, Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva returned to the Principality for the following campaign, making 22 appearances in Ligue 1, of which 13 were starts, as well as a single outing in the French League Cup.
Algerian forward Islam Slimani also joined the one-time French champions for 2019/20, netting nine times and contributing eight assists in his 19 appearances for Les Monégasques. Robert Moreno’s side sat ninth in the table when the season was curtailed, but were just a single point off fifth position.
Meanwhile, forward Fousseni Diabaté played 23 times for fellow Ligue 1 side Amiens, scoring his only goal in a 4-4 draw with UEFA Champions League semi-finalists Paris Saint-Germain in February, but the club was relegated to Ligue 2 following the cancellation of the French season.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, on the other hand, enjoyed a successful first loan spell away from the Club, playing 10 times for Blackpool in Sky Bet League 1. The 21-year-old midfielder contributed four goals as the Tangerines finished 13th in the shortened season. He scored on debut before netting a dramatic late winner against Bolton Wanderers. He also followed that up with another goal four days later, whilst also finding the net on his final appearance for the Tangerines.
Young goalkeeper Daniel Iversen - now on loan at OH Leuven - made a temporary move to Rotherham United in a promotion-winning season for the Millers. He kept 10 clean sheets as the Yorkshire club finished second in Sky Bet League 1, which was decided on a points per-game basis. The Danish shot-stopper made 38 appearances in all competitions, signing a new five-and-a-half year deal at Leicester City midway through the season.
Staying in League 1, Josh Knight featured in 26 games for Peterborough United, who missed out on achieving a play-off berth by a single point. The youngster, who can play both in defence and midfield, scored three league goals in victories over Sunderland and Oxford United, as well as finding the net in a draw with Wycombe Wanderers.
Striker Layton Ndukwu continued his development by spending the season on loan at Southend United. The 21-year-old featured 10 times for the Shrimpers, who were relegated from League 1.
Fellow striker Admiral Muskwe also spent time away from Leicester City, joining League 2 outfit Swindon Town on loan in January. The 21-year-old made five appearances for Swindon, managed by former Foxes midfielder Richie Wellens, before the season was brought to a premature end. Swindon were awarded the League 2 title on a points-per-game basis.
Also in League 2, Foxes’ forward Ryan Loft turned out 35 times for Carlisle United as the Cumbrians finished 18th. The 22-year-old scored six times during his loan spell, including four league strikes, the first of which proved to be the winner away at Scunthorpe United in August 2019.
Sam Hughes was another player that spent 2019/20 in League 2, playing 10 games for newly promoted Salford City between September and February. The defender helped keep four clean sheets in all competitions during the time as the North West club finished 11th in the table.
Attacking midfielder Kamal Sowah made 29 appearances in all competitions during 2019/20, scoring five goals and laying on three assists, as OH Leuven won promotion back to the Belgian Juliper Pro League. One of the first European leagues to commence their new seasons this month, the Ghanian also starred in their 2020/21 opener, a 1-1 draw with Eupen earlier this week.
At present, only Sowah and Iversen (both at OH Leuven) are currently out on loan ahead of the 2020/21 season. Make sure to check back to LCFC.com throughout the upcoming campaign to follow their progress.
