The Belgium international midfielder capped off an end-to-end encounter with a stunning effort from distance to strikes to goals from Harvey Barnes and James Justin, as well as Erik Pieters’ own goal.

Praet was happy to get off the mark for the season, having also produced a fine display in the centre of midfield, but also noted the improvements City must make in the coming weeks.

“It was a good performance,” he said at full-time. “It’s always a tough game against Burnley, so we knew it wasn’t going to be easy. We did very well today.

“We are really happy with our start and now we just have to continue this way. We know Burnley is a tough team and I think we have to work on the goals we gave, we conceded two goals.

“That’s something that we have to work on, but we created enough chances to win the game today.”

Praet suggested fellow Belgium international Timothy Castagne had a role to play in his effort, dragging the opposition full-back towards the touchline before the Foxes No.26 rifled home from range.

“It was a good strike from distance,” he said. “Timothy ran sideways to me and I had the freedom to shoot, so it was a good goal.”

Fellow goalscorer Barnes, meanwhile, received praise from Praet at full-time for his development in the first team in recent seasons.

Barnes scored City’s first against the Clarets before providing the pass for Praet’s goal with 11 minutes to play on Filbert Way.

“Harvey is very talented, but I think you could already see that last year,” said Praet. “He’s made a really good progression, and I think he can continue like that.”
