Rodgers On Maddison’s Magic & Albrighton’s Work-Rate

A trio of first-half strikes saw Maddison find the back of the net on two occasions, either side of Jamie Vardy’s 10th Premier League goal of the season.

Maddison’s second goal of the evening was reminiscent of his stunner against Manchester City earlier this campaign, but this time, it came on his left foot, and Rodgers was left purring at the full-time whistle.

“He's got that touch of magic and touch of genius,’ Rodgers said when asked to comment on Maddison’s 44th-minute goal.

“He's a wonderful player and in fairness to him, he hadn't trained, he's been struggling a little bit with his knee, he's hardly trained this week.

“So that shows you the desire he has to play and the quality. So yes, [I’m] delighted for him.”

Albrighton, meanwhile, began the match as a right wing-back before operating in a more advanced position on either flank, and Rodgers heaped praised on the No.11’s ability to adapt mid-game.

“His work-rate is incredible,” said Rodgers. “He played in three positions tonight, right wing-back, left wing and then onto the right wing.

“It's one of things that I always like in my football players and football teams - that they're bright and intelligent enough to interpret different systems and he's a player that demonstrates that.”

After 12 Premier League matches, the Foxes now sit third in the table, and coupled with winning UEFA Europa League Group G, Rodgers believes his side can take plenty of credit for the way they have risen to the challenge this term.

He said: “The players have been absolutely outstanding. We've been playing in midweek and three games a week for a long time.

“But the players keep showing those moments of quality. But you see the honesty in the team tonight, how hard they work.

“It's a cold evening, the pitch is a bit heavy because of all the rain, but they were outstanding.”
