Leicester City’s ambitious nature, coupled with a thriving atmosphere among staff, players and supporters, were major factors in Jonny Evans’ decision to extend his contract with the Foxes.

On Thursday, the Northern Ireland defender committed his future to City, penning a deal that now runs until the summer of 2023 having joined the Club from West Bromwich Albion in 2018.

Leicester’s appetite for success, the squad’s warm and welcoming nature, and the Club’s commitment to Evans himself all contributed to his choice to prolong his stay at King Power Stadium, revealed the centre-back.

“I’m delighted,” Evans said in an exclusive interview with LCFC TV. “We’ve been in talks probably for a month or two now, so to obviously get it over the line and signed, I’m delighted to commit myself to the Club, and delighted the Club committed themselves to me.

“It’s been great here since the first day I came in. It’s a great atmosphere around the place and it’s a club with a lot of ambition.

“The players are ambitious and the signings that they’ve made over the years, they’ve signed young, hungry players and it’s been great for me to come in alongside that and be a part of it. Like I say, I’ve loved every minute.”

City’s desire to improve has been evident not just in their results on the pitch, but also their investment in the Club’s infrastructure, which was drastically improved in December, when they relocated their day-by-day preparations to a new training ground.

“As a player, a lot of it is to do with what is going on on the pitch,” Evans said while sat in the King Power Centre at Leicester City Football Club Training Ground.

“This is obviously really impressive here, and since we moved in, we’re still a bit gobsmacked that we’re coming in to train at this facility every day. It’s amazing.

“I’ve had my experience of about two-and-a-half years here and I’ve loved it, so I don’t think that would have affected it. I’m well settled here and like I say, it’s a great place to be a part of.”

The new training complex, located in Seagrave, is a 185-acre site that has been designed to aid the development of Leicester City’s players – whether that be first team or Academy – for years to come.

The Northern Ireland defender has signed a deal to the summer of 2023 with City.

For Evans, to extend his stay at a team that has such impressive facilities is ideal.

“There are certain things, with a lot of facilities now, we can train in the evening if we have to, so the recovery is better,” he explained.

“The manager’s mentioned that in a few of his interviews, and it’s been great for us, with such a busy schedule in this moment in time, that we’re able to make use of that.

“The players are loving it. We were all in the pool today and getting the best recovery we can in. Hopefully that can help us prepare for the games in the future.

“Seeing the pictures coming out beforehand, there was a bit of excitement but when you get here, you realise the size of it and everything from the finish of even just the work tops, the changing rooms – all the little details.

The way we’re winning games, the way we’re playing in games, it’s a really exciting style of football. I’m enjoying playing in the team whenever I do play.

“All the boys are buzzing, and you feel like you’re in a five-star hotel at times.”

An experienced member of the Leicester City squad, Evans believes it is the manner in which his side are claiming victories – both domestically and in Europe – that has been most pleasing for the 32-year-old.

“For the last year-and-a-half or so, maybe two years, especially since Brendan [Rodgers] came in, it brought a real confidence to the way we play,” he said. “It’s been excellent to be a part of.

Jonny Evans spoke of the Football Club's ambition and hunger in an exclusive interview with LCFC TV.

“A few of the lads, a few years ago when they won the league, they got into the Champions League and you can see the ambition that they have.

“The players that were involved from that squad, they really want to get back there. Obviously, [we] slightly missed out on the Champions League, but getting into Europe was a target at the start of last season.

“It was something that the manager had spoken about between ourselves and all the staff, and it was great to achieve that. Having experienced that this year, hopefully it becomes the norm for this club.

“We want to maintain our status quite high up the Premier League, and as the season has started, we’re doing that. Hopefully, we can continue that and qualify again."
