- Jonathan Morgan reflects on winning December’s LMA Manager of the Month award
- It is the second time this season that he has won the monthly prize
- City won all three of their FA Women’s Championship games throughout December
Throughout December, the Foxes won all three of their FA Women’s Championship fixtures, beating London Bees and Charlton Athletic to nil, before a hard-fought 3-2 win at Blackburn Rovers just five days before Christmas.
Accompanied by a penalty shootout victory over Birmingham City to reach the last eight of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup, LCFC Women enter the New Year in fine form, and that purple patch has seen Morgan named as the division’s Manager of the Month.
“It’s always nice to be recognised for our achievements,” he told LCFC TV. “Like every manager says, it’s the whole set-up that’s made this possible. All I do is set the girls out to go out and just be the best possible version of themselves.
“None of it can be possible without the staff that help, and the support of the fans online at the moment. The most important thing is the players going out there and getting those results for us to put us in the limelight.
“It’s a nice feeling to have. It does show that we are doing something right here. The results are talking for themselves at the moment and we’re only halfway through the season.
“There’s a long way to go, but to get some awards on the way makes you feel better. It gives you a little bit of an extra push and it makes you hungry for more.”
Leicester will have been able to enjoy a three-week break in league action by the time Sunday’s Women’s Championship clash with Sheffield United at Farley Way Stadium gets underway, but Morgan says his side have previously coped well with a busy run of games.
“It was quite a congested month for us,” Morgan reflected. “I think it was no secret that we kept the same staring XI throughout the whole of that month.
“The fact that they stayed fresh and they were able to put in some good performances across the whole month, as well as the girls that were in the squad that came on to support from that point of view, was fantastic.
“We’re very pleased with December, and to get maximum points and get through to the quarter-finals of the Conti Cup was just fantastic. For us, now, we just want to push on. It makes us hungry for more success, and we just want to keep doing that.”
