As Leicester City edge closer to the halfway stage in their 2020/21 Premier League season, winger Harvey Barnes says now is the time to hone in on what they are hoping to achieve as a side this campaign.

- Harvey Barnes says Leicester City are aiming to perform well in all three of the competitions that they remain in in 2020/21
- The Foxes are flying high in the Premier League and have also progressed in the UEFA Europa League and Emirates FA Cup this season
- Barnes has scored 10 times in all competitions for City this term
- City face Chelsea at King Power Stadium in the Premier League on Tuesday (8:15pm kick-off)

Following Saturday’s 2-0 win over Southampton, the Foxes will prepare for their second home fixture in four days when Chelsea visit King Power Stadium on Tuesday for an 8:15pm kick-off in Leicester.

After 18 Premier League matches, Brendan Rodgers' side occupy third position in the Premier League table after a promising run of form which has included seven victories in 10 games in all competitions.

“You’re at the halfway stage, so you can see how the first half [of the season] went and see how you can do better, and see what we’ve done well, but you’ve also got another half to go,” Barnes told LCFC TV.

“There’s a lot more work to be done. It’s a little bit of reflection time, but also a time to kick on for the second half of the season.

“We’ve got three competitions (Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, UEFA Europa League), which we’ve already looked at and we want to do well in all of them.

“There’s a lot to look forward to for us, and we know there’s no point in having a good first half to the season if the second half doesn’t follow. For us, we need to be fully focused on that, and have a really good second half.”

England international Barnes is currently enjoying his most fruitful season in front of goal having scored 10 times across all competitions, with his most recent strike coming in the success over Southampton.

“I think it’s something that I looked at at the beginning of the season,” he continued. “Goals and assists are something that’s really important to an attacking player, and of course myself.

For us, it’s a great competition. They’re a team that’s in and around us in the league, so it’s always going to be a competitive game.

“So, I knew this year, of course my performances had to be good, but [I wanted to] add more and more goals to my game, which I’ve done this season. In that respect, I’ve been really happy.”

Last campaign, City drew 2-2 with Chelsea in this fixture, with Barnes and fellow Academy graduate Ben Chilwell – who later joined the Blues in the summer – on the scoresheet in February 2020.

“It’s in the past,” City’s No.15 said. “We always know it’s going to be a tough game against them, and in a way, they’ve got a similar set-up to us where they’ve got a lot of young players in the squad.

“For us, it’s a great competition. They’re a team that’s in and around us in the league, so it’s always going to be a competitive game. These are the games that we feel this year we can win, so we’ll be going into the game very positive.”
