Leicester City goalkeepers Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward were both in action for their respective countries as preparations for Euro 2020 stepped up for a number of nations on Wednesday.

- Danny Ward saves Karim Benzema penalty in defeat by France
- Kasper Schmeichel’s Denmark draw with Germany
- National sides prepare for Euro 2020 with warm-up games

Ward, a penalty shootout hero for the Foxes on two occasions in the 2018/19 League Cup, produced a stunning save to prevent striker Karim Benzema from 12 yards on the Real Madrid star’s return to the France national team.

Wales were reduced to 10 men when Neco Williams saw red for the penalty incident, awarded by VAR, and were eventually beaten 3-0 by the World Cup holders.

Despite goals from Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembélé giving the hosts victory in Nice, Ward put in a fine performance ahead of the upcoming summer tournament with a string of saves including his eye-catching penalty stop.

It was the 27-year-old’s 13th appearance for Wales, and his sixth this season as the Dragons prepare for their first major tournament since 2016.

Elsewhere, Schmeichel helped Denmark to a draw with Germany in Austria.

Schmeichel was in action against the former world champions on Wednesday evening.

Schmeichel earned his 64th senior international cap as the Red and White came from behind to finish with a share of the spoils in Innsbruck.

Florian Neuhaus gave Germany the lead shortly after half-time but Red Bull Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen struck to hand Denmark a point and a positive start to the summer.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Development Squad Player of the Season Shane Flynn was an unused substitute in Ireland Under-21s 2-1 win over Australia Under 23s.
