A pacey winger with the ability to drift past defenders, Lookman will spend the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Leicester City following his deadline day move. Despite plying his trade in England and Germany’s top tiers in recent seasons, his professional career began at boyhood club Charlton Athletic in 2015.
Having spent two years in the Addicks’ academy, his first team opportunity came in November 2015, when he came off the bench against MK Dons. His maiden Charlton start arrived soon after, and he ended his first season as a professional with five goals and 24 Championship appearances to his name.
Although 2015/16 ultimately ended in relegation to League 1, Lookman picked up where he left off in 2016/17, scoring seven times in 25 games before Premier League outfit Everton moved for the forward in January.
Naturally, Evertonians were excited to see what the England youth international – capped 31 times across three levels to date – would have to offer, and it didn’t take long for him to show his quality.
He made his debut 10 days after he signed for the Toffees against Manchester City, and announced himself to the Goodison Park crowd in style as he came off the bench to score Everton’s fourth goal in a stunning 4-0 victory.
Lookman notched up a further seven Premier League appearances in 2016/17, and not once was he on the losing side as he helped the Merseyside outfit to four wins during that period.
His 2017 would get even better in the summer, too, as he became a FIFA U20 World Cup winner with England after scoring three times in the prestigious youth tournament.
He would go on to play a significant role in the first half of the following season, making 16 appearances and scoring a brace in the UEFA Europa League against Apollon Limassol.
For the second half of 2017/18, Lookman enjoyed a loan spell at German side Red Bull Leipzig, where he would add a further five goals to his tally, including a brace against Wolfsburg.
That experience prepared him for another top-flight season, this time back at Everton, where he made a further 24 appearances and also scored a maiden goal for England’s Under-21s before Leipzig secured his permanent services in the summer of 2019.
Although Lookman was limited to 13 games for his new side in 2019/20, Fulham knew the young attacker’s potential, and opted to sign him on loan for the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
He would find the net on four occasions for the London outfit, including during their 2-1 win over Leicester City at King Power Stadium, as he again displayed his eye for goal and attacking prowess.
