- Leicester City in the Community’s Premier League Primary Stars team kicked off the Primary Stars programme for 2021/22
- National Fitness Day is a dedication to the important role that physical exercise plays across the nation
- Pupils took part in different sporting activities throughout the day with games involving agility, balancing and football skills
Year Two pupils at Braunstone Community Primary School, a Premier League Primary Stars partner school, took part in an active afternoon dedicated to National Fitness Day.
Splitting up into four teams, the Key Stage One pupils went through a carousel of outdoor activities in the sunshine, all competing against each other.
Spending 20 minutes on each activity, children had a chance to test their balancing skills with beanbags and their strength skills with different core-based movements.
On a different area of the Braunstone CPS field, pupils continued to develop their football and agility skills by manoeuvring around cones.
Filbert Fox was also in attendance on the day, showcasing his football skills and demonstrating how to do strength-based moves, including the plank and press-ups.
Halil Tamgumus, head teacher at Braunstone Community Primary School, highlighted the importance of events like National Fitness Day for children.
“Doing something like this with Leicester City in the Community coming to the school is massive,” he said. “It’s vital that the children get to build up their fitness levels and their stamina levels.
“It not only raises the profile of fitness and health, but our children also have an opportunity to learn new activities, to follow instruction and to interact with each other in a team working environment."
The event aimed to raise awareness of exercise and giving the children exciting and new ways that they can keep physically fit.
Yahya, a Year 2 pupil who took part in the fun activities, talked about how much he enjoyed the event.
“My favourite parts of the day were balancing the bean bags on my head and dribbling [the football] around the cones. I like [playing sport] because you use your legs and your arms, and it makes you strong. It has been my favourite day.”
