Danny Ward helped Wales record a 1-1 draw at home to a Belgium side which included Leicester City team-mate Timothy Castagne and ensure the Dragons would be seeded in the FIFA World Cup play-off draw.

- Danny Ward’s Wales drew 1-1 with Belgium to ensure their World Cup play-off seeding
- Foxes defender Timothy Castagne started for the Red Devils at Cardiff City Stadium
- Çağlar Söyüncü helped Turkey, who are also in the play-offs, to victory over Montenegro
- Patson Daka (Zambia), Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi (Nigeria) also featured in qualifying
- Luke Thomas played in a friendly fixture for England Under-21s against Georgia

Goalkeeper Ward made his 24th senior international appearance, while Castagne was in Belgium’s starting XI at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening and played an hour before being replaced by Leander Dendoncker.

In both sides’ final Group E fixture, Belgium, the no.1 ranked side in the world, were already assured of top spot and a place at next year’s flagship tournament in Qatar, remaining unbeaten throughout their campaign.

Wales, meanwhile, who qualified for the play-offs by finishing top of their UEFA Nations League group, needed a draw to confirm second place and be in the seeded half of the play-offs.

And they did exactly that courtesy of Kieffer Moore’s 32nd-minute equaliser, after Kevin De Bruyne broke the deadlock on 12 minutes, to finish on 15 points ahead of the play-off draw on 26 November.

Elsewhere, centre-back Çağlar Söyüncü played the full 90 minutes of Turkey’s crucial Group G meeting with Montenegro at Podgorico City Stadium as the Crescent-Stars sealed second spot with a 2-1 away win.

Fatos Beciraj gave the hosts an early advantage but Turkey roared back and, following a goal in each half from Muhammed Kerem Aktürkoğlu and Orkun Kökçü, ended on 18 points and will also now enter the play-offs.

Another victory for Çağlar Söyüncü and Turkey in Montenegro on Tuesday.

Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were involved in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Cape Verde Islands, which saw the Super Eagles progress into the next stage of qualifying for the World Cup.

Both goals were scored in the opening five minutes with Victor Osimhen handing Gernot Rohr’s side the lead before Stopira hit back for the visitors soon after.

Ndidi played from start to finish at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, while Iheanacho, who started against Liberia on Saturday, was introduced as a 78th-minute replacement for Odion Ighalo. Nigeria finish as Group C winners with 13 points from six games, securing a play-off spot.

In the same competition, Leicester forward Patson Daka featured throughout Zambia’s 3-1 defeat away to Tunisia in Group B, which ended their chances of reaching the play-offs.

Goals from Aïssa Laïdouni, Mohamed Dräger and Ali Maâloul put the game beyond reach for Zambia, though the visitors did get on the scoresheet via Fashion Sakala’s late strike. The Copper Bullets end the group stage in third place with seven points from six games.

Earlier in the day, Foxes full-back Luke Thomas was in the starting XI as England Under-21s were defeated 3-2 by Georgia Under-21s in a friendly in Batumi, playing 77 minutes of the clash before being replaced by Marc Guehi.

The Young Lions were three goals behind following Giorgi Guliashvili's brace and a strike from Giorgi Gocholeishvili, though they did respond when Sam Greenwood grabbed one back late on and substitute Guehi added a second consolation in stoppage time.
