- LCFC Women were defeated 4-0 by Manchester United at the weekend
- City midfielder Molly Pike reviewed a first WSL reverse in three
- Everton are up next for the Foxes this Saturday (5:30pm kick-off)
- The 21-year-old will be facing her former club at Walton Hall Park
Leicester had no reply to goals from Martha Thomas, Alessia Russo and Katie Zelem’s brace at Leigh Sports Village, ending an impressive run of league form across February which boosted the Foxes’ survival hopes and led to Lydia Bedford being named as Barclays Manager of the Month.
Assessing the performance during her post-match interview, Pike pointed to the mistakes made at critical points in the game, after conceding three goals from set plays, while being unable to find a way through at the other end.
She believes they need to address it quickly as the team prepare to face four of the current top five in their last six fixtures of the 2021/22 campaign.
“It was a very difficult result,” the 21-year-old told LCFC TV. “I feel Man Utd did very well and I think we’ve just got to take today’s game as a learning curve and bring it on to the next few tough games that we’ve got ahead.
“For sure a positive that we can take is that they didn’t really cut us open today to score. It was three set pieces that we do need to get better at.
“We can’t afford to concede from three in a game, but they never really got through us to score, so that’s one positive that we can take from the game.
“That’s one of our strengths and we think the more set pieces that we get, the more opportunities we can get to score, so if we can get more of those in a game it would be good.”
The England Under-23 international will be coming up against her former club on Saturday, with City visiting Walton Hall Park to tackle Everton in a 5:30pm kick-off. It’s a challenge she’s relishing after playing 17 times for the Toffees in the WSL between 2019 and 2021.
“It’s just about taking the fight and the grit that we wanted to win this game and take that into Everton and show them what we can do,” the midfielder added. “I’m really looking forward to it, I think it’ll be a great game.”
