- Manager Brendan Rodgers reacts to Leicester City's 1-1 draw at Manchester United
- Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Foxes the lead, while Fred equalised for the Red Devils
- James Maddison was denied a winner by VAR in the latter moments
- The nature of the performance at the Theatre of Dreams pleased Rodgers
Kelechi Iheanacho's header was nullified by Fred shortly after the hour mark in Manchester, while James Maddison also had a winning strike disallowed via VAR later on for the Foxes. A 1-1 draw remains an admirable result, however, and makes it five games unbeaten against the Red Devils.
It continues an upturn in fortunes for Leicester too, coinciding with the returns of several key players from injury. Wesley Fofana and Jonny Evans started alongside one another for the first time since City's victorious appearance in the final of the Emirates FA Cup.
The backline also included James Justin and Timothy Castagne in full-back positions after both recently recovered from injury concerns of their own. Reflecting on the stalemate at the Theatre of Dreams, Rodgers pointed to the improving nature of Leicester's displays over recent months.
"The performance, I was really pleased with," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "I thought, for large spells, we dominated the game. We deserved to go in front.
"The ball comes in and they clear it and break away. Ki (Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's) determination to get back, make the challenge and make the pass to Madders (James Maddison). His cross is unbelievable, off his left side Kels gets across and made a good finish.
"We didn’t have too many scares. I’m just disappointed we gave the goal away so soon after scoring, but they showed a mentality to get playing again.
"We scored, for me, a really, really good second goal so I’m bitterly disappointed for the players that it wasn’t a winning goal. The ‘keeper makes a great save from Wesley as well. We feel a wee bit aggrieved to come away not to have got all three points.
"I think it should have been three points but I’m also very closely looking at our performance level and, for me, that’s what’s most satisfying.
"We’re getting to the level that I want us to be at. The rotation was good in the team, the movement was good in the team, we got into some really good areas… we’ve got to be tidier with our passing at times and that’s just sometimes experience.
"With experience, you make better decisions with the ball but overall, we’re getting our identity back again each week. I think the supporters can be proud of the team today and a little bit disappointed we didn’t win."
On the phased returns of Fofana and Evans, meanwhile, Rodgers delighted to see them feature together for the first time since May. Rodgers also commented on Fofana, who is observing Ramadan - when Muslims do not eat or drink during the hours of daylight.
"It was very pleasing," Rodgers added. "Jonny’s obviously just working his way back with 60-odd minutes. He had 60-off minutes with Northern Ireland as well. That’s good because there’s no other way to get him up to match speed other than to stick him in because we’re not training an awful lot.
"Wesley, I’ve got to say, I was half expecting him to come off. I had in my mind that Çağs (Çağlar Söyüncü) would probably have to go on at some point because he’s started Ramadan today. He hasn’t eaten, hasn’t drunk a thing, so to put in a performance of that durability shows his mental strength.
"To have those two guys in the team, it’s gives us great authority."
Midfielder Papy Mendy, on the other hand, was withdrawn late on in Manchester, but Rodgers confirmed: "It was just cramp. He’s been playing on international duty and come back along with a few of the other boys who have been playing and I thought he put in a big shift."
