Leicester City in the Community reached a whole host of families during the Fantastic Foxes inclusive event in Braunstone.

- Fantastic Foxes was the biggest one-off inclusive Leicester City in the Community event yet
- Participants had the opportunity to take part in a range of Easter-related activities
- The Community holds frequent inclusive events for people with additional needs

Over 75 participants with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) took part in a series of different activities at Ellesmere College in Braunstone, allowing people with additional needs and their families to turn up and try something new.

Paul Purser, a father of one participant that took part in Fantastic Foxes, highlighted how great it was to see lots of people at Ellesmere College.

“Today has been great,” said Paul. “My son has loved it, he has had a go at all of the activities, and it has been a really good day for the family. He has also met new people, which is really good, so it has been good to get the whole community together.

Parents cope in different ways with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), so events like this get everybody talking and sharing their experiences.

Fantastic Foxes features in a three-part inclusive fox series that is delivered by Leicester City’s charitable arm. The events take place annually every September, December and April.

Eve Ralph, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator at Leicester City in the Community discussed the reasoning behind the inclusive fox events.

“It’s a nice way to bring the community together,” she said. “We are building these partnerships up with different organisations. There are lots of opportunities for participants to try different things on offer, which can be made available to them during term time.

“The next event will probably be in August to September time, and we will continue to aim for three events a year.”

The Fantastic Foxes event in Braunstone had an Easter theme.

Many activities were on offer including arts and crafts, sensory play, rugby, football, music workshops, outdoor learning, bike riding and taekwondo. Fantastic Foxes also featured Easter themed activities such as an Easter egg hunt and the designing of Easter cards.

Tamsin Davis, an instructor from Taekwondo4All, added her views on the day’s proceedings.

“What a great turnout for the Fantastic Foxes inclusion day!” claimed Tamsin. "There was a constant flow of children coming into the sports hall to try out taekwondo. It was such a great day for the children and young adults.”
