- Leicester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Roma in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League Semi-Final tie on Thursday
- Gianluca Mancini's own goal restored parity on the scoresheet after Lorenzo Pellegrini's opener
- Manager Brendan Rodgers was proud of his players after a commanding performance on Filbert Way
- The sides meet again, for a place in the final, at Stadio Olimpico next week
The semi-final tie in the UEFA Europa Conference League is finely poised at the halfway point after Ademola Lookman forced an own goal from Gianluca Mancini to cancel out Lorenzo Pellegrini's opener. City, though, were dominant throughout the tie in front of a raucous home crowd in Leicester.
"It was a great occasion," Rodgers told LCFC TV at full-time. "I thought the supporters were great, they really helped the team, and I thought the team played very, very well. We showed real courage on the ball against an experienced team.
"Our movement and mobility in the game was really good and we arrived into the final third in some really good positions. We scored a very good goal, had other opportunities where it just didn’t quite drop for us, and also it was a mixture of them defending the box well.
"Even though we were behind in the game, we weren’t giving away so much. We were aware, on the counter attack, they might look to break away. We were disappointed with the goal because it comes from a throw-in that we should defend much better.
"It was the reaction we needed from the team and I thought that reaction from very good. Overall, I’m really pleased with the performance and it gives us great confidence now going into the second leg."
Leicester pushed José Mourinho's visitors back in the second half on Filbert Way, searching for a winner on the night which would have secured a lead over the tie. While that wasn't to be in the end, Rodgers is proud of his players, who have so far overcome Randers, Rennes and PSV Eindhoven in the competition.
The Foxes face Roma in the second leg at Stadio Olimpico next Thursday (8pm BST kick-off).
"The rhythm in our game was excellent, the tempo was very good," the Northern Irishman added. "We kept going forward and that gives me great pride in the team. We were there to win the game. Our football was very, very good. Some of our movement as well.
"The only downside was in the final third, I’ve said that before, but that’s then all about individual quality and some bits of precision with your passing. If we can perform like that next week, we’ll have a great chance of going through.
"I said before the game, we’ve got a 25 per cent chance of getting through. In semi-finals, there’s only one winner. There’s only one team that’s goes through and hopefully we can get as many supporters out there as we can, hear them in an amazing stadium in Rome, and go and finish the job."
