- James Maddison says he is 'humbled' by his award win on Monday evening
- The Leicester City midfielder picked up the Club's Mens Player of the Season prize
- He's scored 16 goals for the Foxes across a fruitful 2021/22 campaign
Maddison, 25, has netted 16 goals throughout the 2021/22 campaign – his best tally in a Leicester shirt – and was voted by the Blue Army to be recognised as the Club's most outstanding first team player during Monday evening's awards ceremony at King Power Stadium.
The former Norwich City midfielder said he was humbled to receive the honour on Filbert Way and outlined his intention to try and build on those numbers before the season's end. The Foxes face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, before hosting Southampton on the final day on Sunday.
"I’m very happy, very humbled," City's No.10 told LCFC TV. "I just want to say thank you to every fan who voted for me, it’s very much appreciated.
"These are the moments you look back on when you finish your career and I’m over the moon with it. It’s such an honour, especially with the talented team we have here at Leicester, so it’s a big thank you.
"As an attacking player, you want to score, you want to assist, you want to bring the quality you have into the games.
"I feel like I’ve done that. The numbers are pretty good at the minute with a couple of games to go. Sixteen goals is my best-ever return, even beating the Norwich season, which actually got me the move to Leicester. Hopefully I can nick a couple more in the last couple of games. It’s been a positive season.
"Football is a team game and I’d swap the award in a heartbeat to be in a final at the end of the month in Europe, but that wasn’t to be."
Maddison says he has worked hard to improve his overall game this season and has been thrilled to see those efforts rewarded.
"I’ve just been being self-critical and looking at my game, where I can improve," he added. "You can never stop improving. It doesn’t matter what age you are. You can always keep improving and that’s one thing which is the best part of being an attacking player – the scoring and assisting.
"If you’re looking to improve on that bit – it’s where can you get more goals, can you get in the box more, can you have more shots – whatever it is, it’s worked this season so hopefully I can continue that."
As another season draws to a close later this week, the England midfielder took stock of the year, reflecting on his personal highlight.
"PSV away, in the quarter-final," he said. "Going down 1-0, knowing what it meant to everyone, and to score the equaliser to get us back in the game before Ricky (Ricardo Pereira) winning it… that feeling on that night was a brilliant feeling. Liverpool at home was also a good one!
"There’s lots of goals to look back on also, but I think PSV away was the standout."
