The trip to Vitality Stadium an opportunity to build momentum following Monday's 4-0 rout of rivals Nottingham Forest. Instead, though, it was a seventh Premier League defeat of the season as goals from Philip Billing and Ryan Christie overturned Patson Daka's opener.
Rodgers outlined why this reverse in Dorset was so disappointing, highlighting a lack of ability to keep possession as one key area for improvement.
"I was surprised," the Northern Irishman told LCFC TV. "Especially on the back of that result and the performances in training and the mentality. I think we disappointed ourselves today on the back of an opportunity for us to build momentum. Now, we dust ourselves off and get ready for the next game.
"We had control in the first half. Obviously, we had an unfortunate mistake with the slip of JJ, which we recovered back well in the box, but apart from that, we looked a good team in the first half. We kept going from where we were on Monday night. In the second half, we had just too many errors.
"We gave away the ball too much with simple things like throw-ins and ultimately losing possession of the ball. We didn’t build anything in the second half to put any pressure on their goal. I think we rushed trying to finish the moves in one pass. A little bit of nervousness, a little bit of anxiety sets in.
"It was a really disappointing result for us."
Daka was on the scoresheet again for the Foxes, netting his third goal in four games. The Zambia international was preferred in attack to Jamie Vardy from the start at Bournemouth. Rodgers says this is due to the former RB Salzburg's pressing abilities, as well as his goalscoring form.
"He’s fully fit," the manager said, discussing Vardy. "It’s important our team has the intensity to press the game throughout and Patson’s obviously very, very good in that aspect and he’s got another goal as well. Jamie is still very important for us, whether he starts or comes off the bench."
Timothy Castagne, on the other hand, suffered a head injury in the first half but was able to continue until the 67th minute.
Explaining his condition, Rodgers said: "He’d got a bump on his head and I felt, in the second half, that was starting to impair him a little on the outside, so we put Daniel [Amartey] on."
