A closer look at England international James Maddison, who has been named in the Three Lions' squad for Qatar.

Player bio

James Maddison has been in sensational form for Leicester City over the past 12 months, ending the 2021/22 season with 18 goals for the Foxes, also scooping the Club's Player of the Season prize. He's continued in the same vein this year too, netting seven goals for City, most recently in the 2-0 win at West Ham United. Leicester's No.10 - who has won the FA Cup and Community Shield in four years at the Club - has just one cap for England to his name.

International team

One-time World Cup winners England have gone desperately close to international glory under the management of Gareth Southgate. After reaching the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Russia in 2018, the Three Lions were left heartbroken at UEFA EURO 2020 (staged a year late in 2021) after being defeated by Italy in the final at Wembley. Despite a poor UEFA Nations League campaign, England remain one of the favourites in Qatar.
