Dealing with the occasion and playing with confidence will be key to Leicester City's chances at Nottingham Forest on Saturday, says Harvey Barnes.

- The winners on Saturday will go three points clear of the other

Barnes, who netted for the Foxes in a 4-0 rout of City's East Midlands rivals back in October, was speaking to LCFC TV this week to preview the latest encounter with Steve Cooper's men.

Both sides are level on 17 points in the Premier League and will view Saturday's 3pm GMT kick-off as a chance to climb the standings ahead of a vital run-in of fixtures.

While Leicester were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the quarter-finals at Newcastle United in midweek, Forest emerged past Wolverhampton Wanderers to reach the last four.

"It was disappointing, the result in the cup," Barnes said. "The lads know the performance wasn't good enough, but I think you quickly realise you've got a massive game coming in four days again.

"You have to, as quickly as you can, forget about that and look forward and that's what we've done in the last couple of days here.

"We're preparing for that game. We know it's a massive occasion for both teams and hopefully we can get a result like we did earlier this year.

"We obviously had that bad patch earlier this season, and we changed that around, hit a good bit of form, and we didn't expect to be in a similar position again this season.

"But we are, so it's all about learning from what happened last time and getting out of that slump that we're in now as quickly as we can to change it around again.

"This weekend is going to be a great occasion to do that, and it can hopefully spur us on now for the rest of the season.

"The break did come at a bad time for us, but it's not an excuse for the results and the performances that we've put in since we've been back.

It's not just, in a way, the football element. It's the whole atmosphere, learning to deal with all that, and I think the first goal is going to be important.

"For us, it's all about just making it right as quickly as we can."

Barnes is well aware of the difficulties which Saturday's game will involve. He's aware also, though, that City have the qualities required to leave Nottingham with three points.

"It's going to be tough, you know," he explained. "They won't have liked what happened earlier this year, I'm sure. Their home form's been good for them.

"They've made it tough to go there, so it's going to be a tough game for us, definitely. But we know that. We've got to, as a team, deal with all the different factors of the game.

"It's not just, in a way, the football element. It's the whole atmosphere, learning to deal with all that, and I think the first goal is going to be important.

"Hopefully, if we can go and get that, it will settle the game down a bit, but if not, you know it's bouncing back and dealing with it, so it's going to be a good occasion."

Last October's victory over Forest propelled Leicester towards a positive run of form, following six league defeats in a row. With wins again hard to come by, Barnes is hoping for a similar upturn this winter.

"Before that, we were in a real downer performance-wise and results-wise," City's No.7 added. "That was a bit of a changing point for us, where it wasn't just the goals we scored, it was everything.

"It was the clean sheet, the whole atmosphere of the stadium, and I think everyone realised that was the start of good things to come, which in the end it was.

"We went on a good run after that, and we're going to be looking for the same as that this weekend. It's a great occasion for us.

"It's one where if you can go and get a great result, I think it really can change it for us."

The Academy graduate is also determined to repair Leicester's form for the Club's supporters - who have backed the Foxes in numbers this term.

He said: "As a team, we've realised this year we haven't hit the levels that we know we can and should have and what we're expected to do from the fans.

"They have stuck by us and we're going to need them again this weekend to help us. Hopefully we come away from this weekend with three points and push on for the rest of the season."
