Manager Willie Kirk doesn’t think LCFC Women did enough to win three points against Everton but is happy that his team are moving in the right direction.

- LCFC Women drew 0-0 with Everton on Sunday afternoon
- The goalless match at King Power Stadium earned City their seventh point of the season
- The Foxes are one point behind Brighton in the Barclays Women’s Super League
- Up next for Leicester is an away fixture against Tottenham Hotspur

In a tight and bustling affair at King Power Stadium, the spoils were shared as the Foxes picked up their first draw of the 2022/23 season against Everton.

With both sides missing key chances, the hard-fought point leaves Leicester bottom of the WSL, but have reduced the gap to Brighton & Hove Albion to a single point.

“I don’t think we’ve done enough to win the game so I don’t think we deserved the three points,” Kirk told LCFC TV. “We set out to win the game, but after that the most important thing is not to lose.

“We’ve got one more point than we had yesterday. We’ve closed that gap – it would’ve been nice to get off the bottom tonight but we will have to wait until another day. It was a hard-fought point, and probably an entertaining 0-0.”

German shot-stopper Janina Leitzig was once again at the heart of the action, having joined on loan from Bayern Munich in the January transfer window. Making two crucial close-range stops helped City on their path to achieving a point, and the manager was keen to share his praise on the No.33.

He added: “A couple of big saves again from Janina [Leitzig], I suppose it’s a bit cliché to say she’s paid to do that but she’s doing very well. Taking a point is a positive and a good building block. We’re in a new block of games, with a new target that we’re after, and that’s another one chalked off.

“We’ll take this into Wednesday’s game, we don’t have too much time but we’ll recover properly to perform well in London."

We just need to brave, trust ourselves and one another, and we’ll get the job done.

Looking ahead, the Foxes travel to the capital to face Tottenham Hotspur at Brisbane Road on Wednesday (7pm kick-off).

“It’s now the biggest game of the season,” the 44-year-old explained. “They all have been recently, but we always only focus on what’s right in front of us, and I think we’ll take confidence into it.

“I want the players to be brave from the first minute, and you could see the players get stuck in those moments where they don’t know whether to go or not, and if you do that, then more often than not you won’t go.

“We just need to brave, trust ourselves and one another, and we’ll get the job done.”
