LCFC Women welcome Liverpool to King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon (12:30pm kick-off) for Barclays Women's Super League action.

The Foxes head home for the first time since they were last in action against Reading at the start of April, when an injury-time winner from Carrie Jones sent Leicester into the international break with three additional points on the board.

As focus turns to Liverpool, take a look at the details ahead of Saturday's match...

The Foxes camp

Carrie Jones scored a 96th minute winner against Reading in City's last match.

It's been a while away from the pitch for Willie Kirk's side, who haven't played together since their dramatic 2-1 win over the Royals at the start of the month. Since then, nine City players featured during the international break, before returning to Belvoir Drive.

With five games of the 2022/23 campaign remaining, things are heating up in the battle for survival, as City currently sit bottom of the pile, but only a single point behind Reading, who have played an extra game.

A win for Leicester would therefore see them leapfrog both Reading and Brighton & Hove Albion into 10th place, ahead of next Friday's trip to Chelsea, and will be boosted in their aim for victory by the return of Jess Sigsworth, who was welcomed back onto the Filbert Way pitch in the last match.

The opposition

Liverpool drew 1-1 with Everton at Goodison Park back in March.

Liverpool head into the weekend in seventh position, and with nine points from their first 17 games. They have recorded five wins so far this season, most recently when they beat Brighton 2-1 last weekend; Ceri Holland scoring twice in the second half to complete the comeback.

The Merseyside outfit arrive to King Power Stadium in fine form, and unbeaten in their last four outings, picking up draws with Everton and West Ham United after a 2-1 home win against Tottenham Hotspur in March.

However, they have also endured their fair share of losses this season, and actually only won once in their last seven prior to their meeting with Spurs, and of course suffered defeat to the Foxes earlier this season.

In the dugout

Matt Beard on the touchline at Prenton Park.

Matt Beard resides in the dugout for Liverpool and has done since his appointment in July 2021, following his departure as interim manager of Bristol City, who last weekend confirmed their promotion back to the WSL after being crowned Barclays Women's Championship champions.

The 45-year-old is no stranger to that feeling, winning the second division with Liverpool last season, following a six-year spell away from the club. He also guided West Ham to the Vitality Women's FA Cup final in 2019, but was ultimately defeated 3-0 by Manchester City under the arch at Wembley Stadium.

Last time out

The Foxes celebrating Hannah Cain's eighth minute goal at Prenton Park.

City will have fond memories of Liverpool, as they picked up their first, and only, away win of the campaign earlier on in the season when Hannah Cain swept home a brilliant corner routine to guide the Foxes to three points at Prenton Park in February.

Back in October, however, the Reds were victorious against Leicester when they beat a young and relatively inexperienced team 4-0 at Pirelli Stadium in Group B of the Continental Tyres League Cup.
