Four weeks on from an outstanding 2-1 win over Reading, which saw the Foxes momentarily lift themselves off bottom spot in the WSL for the first time this season, City are back in action when they welcome the Reds to King Power Stadium on Saturday afternoon (12:30pm BST kick-off).

Ahead of the game, the manager provided a fitness update on his squad and announced that striker Sigsworth will not be available for selection after a slight setback during her rehabilitation programme, following a late substitute appearance in the victory over the Royals.

"Sigsworth will miss this weekend's match against Liverpool," the manager stated. "She has had a setback and will miss the game, which is frustrating for her, and us, as we were hoping she could build on the positive return she had to the Reading game last time out.

"She's had to wait a long time to come back, so we understand it's a tough situation for the player, but we're confident she'll return stronger."

Jess Sigsworth was a late substitute in the Foxes' 2-1 win over Reading at the start of April.

Another forward currently sidelined with injury is Shannon O'Brien. The former Everton manager shared positive news that City's No.27 is progressing well, and may even return ahead of the conclusion of the 2022/23 campaign.

"Shannon has started to feature in light training sessions with the rest of the squad," Kirk continued. "This weekend will still be too early for her to feature in a game, but she's doing well and we're hopeful that she'll feature before the season is out."

Lachante Paul, meanwhile, is back on the grass at Belvoir Drive, and Kirk believes the player is growing in confidence with each hurdle that she is climbing.

He added: "Lachante is doing really well but is still a long way away, and she won't feature this season. But it's good for her to be back on the pitch, and I know that the rest of the team are happy to see her development.

"It means a lot for Lachante who has been out for such a long time. We're looking forward to see how her recovery progresses."
