A game which ebbed and flowed throughout saw the Toffees take an early lead when Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted a 15th-minute penalty. Leicester responded superbly via Çağlar Söyüncü's finish and went ahead thanks to Jamie Vardy’s second goal in as many games.

James Maddison’s penalty, saved by Jordan Pickford, denied City a third before the break, and they ultimately had to settle for a point after Alex Iwobi levelled the scores in the second half.

Thomas, speaking to LCFC TV post-match, commented: “Definitely you could see towards the end of the game, it was such an open game, a very end-to-end game. It was a difficult one to play in, but it’s a point and we can move on from that now.

Dan [Iversen] has made some unbelievable saves tonight and it could have gone either way. It was a bit of a basketball game towards the end.

“The two goals to go 2-1 up were great goals and very clinical from us considering how we’d played in the first half. It didn’t feel like we were very good on the ball so to come in 2-1 up at the break was a positive.

“It was a great finish [from Söyüncü]. It was just a second ball on a free-kick but he’s there, right place at the right time to put it away. He (Vardy) scored last week and he’s scored again today, so he can kick on in these last four games and get some more for us.”

The full-back, who came back into the starting XI for the first time under Manager Dean Smith, admitted it was contest which could have gone either way and the Foxes were indebted to goalkeeper Daniel Iversen for a string of fine stops to prevent the visitors claiming all three points.

“We had the chances, but if you look at it, so did they,” the Academy graduate explained. “They missed a couple. Dan [Iversen] has made some unbelievable saves tonight and it could have gone either way. It was a bit of a basketball game towards the end.

“He (Iversen) was brilliant tonight. Some of the saves he has made have kept us in the game. He made a couple in the first half. Iwobi’s chance, Calvert-Lewin’s where he’s two yards out, so that's really positive and a great performance from himself.”

The fight for Premier League survival goes on and that result, although moving Leicester out of the bottom three and up to 16th, means they are still looking over their shoulder. Five points from a possible nine in the last three games provides some cause for optimism, though, Thomas believes, ahead of a trip to Fulham next Monday.

“We’ve come away with a point, so we’ll take that,” the 21-year-old added. “We’ve got ourselves out of the relegation zone and it’s three games undefeated. I don’t think there’s been many times this season where we’ve done that. We’ve struggled, but that’s a positive to take and hopefully on Monday we can make that four.”

The defender also praised the Blue Army’s support: “The fans were fantastic tonight. They were behind us throughout the whole game, even when we’ve gone 1-0 down. They are pushing us and then we got those two goals to go ahead so we appreciate that.”
