- Callum Doyle arrives on loan from Manchester City
- Defender joins the Foxes until the end of the 2023/24 season
- The 19-year-old spent a successful loan with Coventry City last term
The 19-year-old makes the move to Leicestershire having also spent last season on loan in the Championship with Coventry City. The youngster impressed across 46 appearances for the Midlands side as they reached the 2022/23 Championship Play-Off Final in May.
Doyle said: “It’s great to come to work in a place like this. I’ve worked with Enzo before and won the Under-23s Premier League title with him. He improved me a lot so it’s good to work with him again.
“What’s on everyone’s mind right now is obviously to get the Club back where it belongs. This season, with the squad that we have, I think we’ll do really well.”
The talented defender began his footballing education with Manchester City in 2014, signing for the Citizens at the age of 11 and would go on to become a regular in City’s Elite Development Squad – some of those appearances under current Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca.
After a series of standout displays in Manchester City’s Development Squad, Doyle made his first foray into the senior game during a loan spell with Sunderland in 2021/22. He would make a total of 44 appearances in all competitions as the Black Cats went on a successful League One promotion campaign.
Internationally, he has represented his country at various youth levels, including 14 caps for the England Under-19s side that were victorious in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2022, while he was also part of the England Under-20 squad that travelled to the summer’s FIFA Under-20s World Cup in Argentina.
Doyle will now immediately link up with his new team-mates as they prepare for the new Sky Bet Championship season with a series of friendly fixtures, beginning away at Northampton on Saturday 15 July (3pm BST kick-off).
