Harry Winks believes the Club’s pre-season tour of Southeast Asia is providing a good platform for the campaign ahead.

- Leicester City continue to prepare for the 2023/24 season in Southeast Asia
- The squad are training in Singapore with a match against Liverpool to come
- Harry Winks spoke ahead of Sunday’s friendly at Singapore National Stadium
- The Foxes were put through their paces with a double session on Friday

Now on the final leg of the trip, Leicester City’s squad are currently training out in Singapore, where temperatures have reached 30 degrees Celsius during the day.

Following a gruelling double session at Lion City Sailors Academy - the Foxes’ base for the coming days – Winks gave insight into why it has been beneficial to work in such conditions.

“Once you acclimatise out here and train in this kind of heat, you like to think that once we get back to England, it should be slightly easier,” the midfielder revealed.

“That's the positive side of training out here and working in the heat. So every day we are training good and training well.”

Winks, one of Enzo Maresca’s first summer signings as Leicester Manager, has been impressed with the level of detail and tactical nous provided by the former Manchester City assistant, while the support from his team-mates allowed a smooth transition into life at the Club.

"Every day you learn something new from the manager because his knowledge of football is incredible," the England international commented.

The style of play and the manager's concept, it's positive. Hopefully we can start off the season in a good way.

"I think everybody is getting on really well as a squad and since I've come in, it's been brilliant for me because everyone – the lads, the staff - has been great with me and so welcoming to help me settle in.

“I feel like I’ve been here for a while. It’s been really nice since I’ve arrived, I'm really enjoying my time here, really enjoying this pre-season and I think all the boys are enjoying it too.

“The style of play and the manager's concept, it's positive. Hopefully we can start off the season in a good way.”

Sunday will see the Foxes travel to Singapore National Stadium for a friendly against Liverpool (10am BST kick-off), a fixture that Digital Members can watch live on Foxes Hub. Coming a week ahead of the new season, it is the perfect preparation, Winks believes.

The ex-Spurs star added: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a good test for us and an enjoyable one. It’s probably our biggest test of the pre-season so far. Obviously, it was a shame the Tottenham friendly got cancelled because of the weather, but it should be another difficult game.

“In the heat and the humidity, it’s a game against one of the best teams in the world and one of the best pressing teams in world football at going man-for-man, being aggressive and getting into you.

“So, it’s going to be a good opportunity for us to play, try the manager’s ideas, show where we’re at and to show our style of play and how we want to play. There’ll be no harder opposition to do that than Liverpool in terms of pressing.”
