Foxes Heading On International Duty This September

Several of Leicester City’s stars are set to represent their countries over the upcoming international window.

- Wout Faes, Mads Hermansen and Danny Ward may feature in EURO qualifiers
- AFCON qualifiers could involve Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Patson Daka and Abdul Fatawu
- Callum Doyle and Cesare Casadei have been selected for U21 EURO qualifiers
- Harry Souttar, Ben Nelson and Deniche Hill are also in line for international minutes

Centre-back Wout Faes has joined up with Belgium as they recommence the UEFA EURO qualifiers for the 2024 tournament. Tackling Azerbaijan in Baku on Saturday 9 September (2pm kick-off), the Red Devils then host Estonia at King Baudouin Stadium three days later (7:45pm kick-off).

Currently second in Group F, Domenico Tedesco’s side have collected seven points from their opening three games in the pool and will aim to remain unbeaten following this month’s fixtures.

Foxes shot-stopper Mads Hermansen is also in line for EURO qualifier involvement having been named in Denmark’s squad for two upcoming matches. Kasper Hjulmand’s outfit meet San Marino in Copenhagen on Thursday 7 September (7:45pm kick-off).

Group H leaders Finland are their opponents on Sunday 10 September, meanwhile, with a 5pm kick-off scheduled for the match at Helsinki Olympic Stadium. The Danes sit two points behind, in third, having won two and drawn one of their opening four fixtures.

Another City goalkeeper set for international action is Danny Ward, following his selection in the Wales squad to take on South Korea in a friendly at Cardiff City Stadium this Thursday (7:45pm kick-off).

That match will serve as preparation for their next EURO qualifier as Rob Page’s men travel to Skonto Stadium in Riga to face Latvia next Monday (7:45pm kick-off). Cymru are fourth in Group D, as things stand, with four points from four games.

Ward played in Wales' previous qualifier against Turkey in June.

In Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have both been selected to represent Nigeria in their final Group A match, against São Tomé and Príncipe at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium this Sunday (5pm kick-off).

The Super Eagles are top of the pool heading into this encounter, with 12 points on the board from five games, two points ahead of Guinea-Bissau in second.

A day earlier, Foxes forward Patson Daka may be involved in Zambia’s final qualifier, against Comoros, an 8pm kick-off at Stade Omnisports de Malouzini. The Copper Bullets top Group H, two points clear of Ivory Coast having won four of their five matches so far.

Abdul Fatawu, meanwhile, is in the Ghana squad to face Central African Republic at Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday. The Black Stars head into their last Group E match top of the table, two points ahead of their opponents in third.

They then host Liberia in a friendly match at Ohene Djan Sports Stadium next Tuesday (both 5pm kick-offs). 

Elsewhere, defender Harry Souttar is part of the Australia squad jetting out to the USA for a friendly meeting with Mexico in Texas on Sunday (3am kick-off).

City loanee Cesare Casadei is in line for game time during Italy Under-21s’ opening two Group A qualification matches for the 2025 UEFA EURO U21 Championships.

Taking on Latvia on Friday 8 September, the fixture at Slokas Stadium is a 3pm kick-off. Italy’s youngsters are on the road again next Tuesday, tackling Turkey at New Sakarya Atatürk Stadium (5:30pm kick-off).

Callum Doyle is Leicester’s representative in England Under-21s’ squad for the Young Lions’ qualification opener away to Luxembourg next Monday (5pm kick-off). In Group F, Lee Carsley’s side are the current champions and will be looking to defend the title they claimed earlier this year.

Leicester City Development Squad midfielder Deniche Hill is part of the Bermuda side involved in a CONCACAF Nations League double-header starting against French Guiana on Saturday (12:30am kick-off).

That home game at Bermuda National Stadium is followed by travelling to face Saint Vincent and the Grenadines at Arnos Vale Stadium next Tuesday (8:30pm kick-off) as League B Group C begins.

Elsewhere, England Under-20s are holding an international training camp at St. George’s Park and 19-year-old centre-back Ben Nelson is part of the squad.
